Holiday Inn Express - Keizer Oregon
Recently I was hired to work with Holiday Inn Express photographing a hotel in Keizer Oregon. The city of Keizer is close to Portland and right outside of the Salem area and servers as a hub for commerce related to agriculture in the Willamette Valley. The client wanted high quality images that stood out helping the hotel attract a wide set of clients and also showcase the quality of the newly built hotel.
Prep and on location work took about 2 days, post production took 9, from start to finish 11 full days to complete the project. A medium format Fuji GFX was used in combination with the excellent 24mm and 45mm prime lenses offered by Fuji. All interior images were captured using strobes that were moved around between shots while the camera was tethered to a laptop via WiFi, each final image composites 30+ exposures. Photos were composited in Photoshop, using a verity of techniques including luminosity masks and exposure blending. Final color correction and edits were done using Capture One Pro 12.
Likely the largest challenge in this project was getting the interior lighting correct. The images represent a mix of strobes, natural and building lighting that required extensive work to blend them in way that gave the correct feel. It's very hard for example to ensure a hanging pendent light looks natural and can be seen when its placed in a window with bright outdoor sky. Very subtle manipulations were required to bring out the details like this with use of lots of hand drawn luminosity masks on each image.
Overall I enjoyed this project and feel it represented a maturing of my work professionally, to see more please visit my full portfolio.
