Editorial at OHSU Featuring Damien Fair
Damien Fair, PA-C, PhD is the Principle Investigator of the DCAN lab at Oregon Health Science University (OSHU) in Portland Oregon. I recently worked with Damien photographing him for editorial feature by Spectrum News. The DCAN lab focuses on the study of the human brain using functional MRI and resting state functional connectivity MRI.
Damien’s work focuses the relationship and behavior of connections in the mind, his work tends to focus on subjects with ADHD or autism however the work he does has a wide reach in its therapeutic application. From what I experienced in the lab there seemed to be an emphasis on computation and data analysis set on a backdrop of a socially engaging environment.
The project was broken up into two shoots due to time constraints of the subject and timing of an article that was going to be published. The first shoot focused on portraits and the second on more interactive images of Damien with staff. Both shoots were highly compressed in terms of time with each lasting less than 1 hour, everything had to be ready to go and each light setup has to be very fast with the limited time I had to work with him.
Sticking true to an editorial article of this verity images were lightly processed with almost all the lighting being done on location with the use of Profoto B1 portable strobe lights, and a mix of soft-boxes and hard reflectors.
